TAGB conducted the first ever community camping trip in its lustrous 30-year history at
Camp Winadu from June 1-2, 2018. The camp, attended by around 250 members, was a
smashing success. Attendees of all ages took advantage of wonderful and pleasant weather
to explore the vast campgrounds leisurely and took part sportively in several tournaments
conducted by the Sports Committee. Volleyball, Throw ball, Basketball, Tennis, Frisbee,
Lemon & Spoon race, Sack race and others saw strangers coming together, making friends,
forming teams, and having a jolly good time. Frequent and refreshing ice-cream treats
helped everybody cool off and ready for the next game.
When evening came, all decked in white gathered around the camp fire for an entertaining
time. AV Committee put together a Karaoke so people could belt out their favorites songs
while enthusiasts shook a leg or two around the fire. Smores were enjoyed by kids and
adults alike. The party then moved into the indoor stadium for a round of Bingo and several
rounds of dance beats well past midnight.
Next day saw people refreshed and ready to take on the challenges that wilderness offers,
so several groups ventured into the nearby Pittsfield State Forest for hiking to enjoy the
outdoors, work up some sweat, strike up conversations, and build comradeship. Meals
offered opportunities to nourish bodies and minds with lively chitchats. TAGB went the
extra mile to serve hot rice, homemade pickles, podis, ghee, sweets, and savories. They
were lapped up eagerly by pleasantly surprised attendees. Green Team vowed to reduce the
overall impact on environment and brought in several reusable articles. Around 250 plates,
300 glasses, and 150 bowls were used, washed and dried, and reused several times thereby
significantly reducing the use of single use plastics and styrofoam utensils.
Camp ended little after lunch on 2nd day after announcing winners for all activities.
President, Mrs. Manimala and EC team received countless, very well-deserved pats on their
backs for dreaming up, working extremely hard, and pulling off this very entertaining, truly
one-of-a-kind event to give the community a chance to garner life-long memories.
