TANA atlanta in association with TAMA organized Heart health seminar and Presented by Dr srini Gangasani.
TANA Atlanta in association with TAMA conducted a Heart Health Seminar along with a free Bone Density Checkup, on February 1st, 2020. February being a Heart Health Month, the timing for this Seminar is apt to encourage Fellow Indian Americans to focus on Heart health and educate them on preventive methods. Close to two hundred people attended the event and TAMA Director SreeRam Royyala kicked off the event by highlighting various activities TAMA undertakes such as TAMA Clinic and 5K Walk to help and promote health.
The featured speaker for this event is Dr. Srini Gangasani, an eminent Cardiologist in Metro Atlanta area and Founding partner of Cardiovascular Group. He focused on various causes and symptoms of heart disease in South Asians and gave very good tips on prevention. He also debunked some of the common misconceptions on causes and risks of Cardiovascular disease among people of Indian origin. One of the most important takeaways from the seminar is that South Asians are a lot more prone to Heart disease than Caucasians and Heart disease could occur in young adults even in twenties. As South Asians have highest death rate due to heart failures, Dr. Ganagasani highlighted the importance of early detection and lifestyle changes to prevent fatalities. He also mentioned various early detection measures for Coronary Artery Disease such as Calcium Score, Levels of blockage, Angiogram, and stress tests. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) indicate that heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States also, affecting one out of four people. During the presentation the audience were quite attentive, and observant of the material being presented. As most of the attendees are in their middle age, Dr. Gangasani’s humorous quotes on expired warranty and lack of spare parts were taken well.
After the presentation, Dr. Amarnath Kommuri along with Dr. Gangasani answered many questions raised by audience on various topics such as modern techniques on Heart surgery, types of Cholesterol medication, hereditary risks, and common lifestyle changes that can be easily adopted in order to prevent Heart failure related deaths.
TANA president elect, Anjaiah Chowdary Lavu,South East RC Kiran Gogineni,Vinay Maddineni felicitated Dr. Srini Gangasani and highlighted various TANA activities in public sphere. TAMA president Bharat Maddineni and TAMA Chairman Rajasekhar Chunduri, along with other TAMA EC and Board members felicitated Dr. Amarnath Kommuri and Dr. Nandini Kommireddy.
Free Bone Density checkup is carried out by Dr. Nandini Sunkireddy and many attendees took advantage of this checkup not only to check their current Bone health but also to discuss with the Doctor on how to improve bone health.
