Dr. Deerghasi Vizai Bhaskar, born in 1958, in Ampolu village of Srikakulam district, Andhra Pradesh, India. Started writing dramas since he was 22. His debut play “Turpu Tellanrindi” wowed the audience. His PhD thesis was focused on Bertolt Brecht’s influence on Telugu drama. He draws his themes from the agony of human predicament prevalent in rural society. His powerful sense of humour with all shades of satire makes the audience realize the play’s goal. He was awarded Nandi Awards six times for best playwriting and the most covered Central Sangeet Natak Pursaskar-2010. A good number of his plays were translated into several Indian languages. Kannada, Tamil, Hindi, Gujarati, Bengal, Manipuri, Malayalam and English and won equal appreciation and acclaim from all the sections of the audience. It is no exaggeration to say that he emerged as a powerful pan Indian playwright of recent times.
