కరేబియన్‌లోని కురసావులో ప్రవాసాంధ్రుల ఆధ్వర్యంలో నిర్వహిస్తున్న ప్రముఖ వైద్య విశ్వవిద్యాలయం సెయింట్ మార్టినస్ యూనివర్సిటీ బోర్డ్ ఆఫ్ గవర్నర్స్ ఛైర్మన్‌గా డాక్టర్ హరనాథ్ పొలిచర్ల నియమితులయ్యారు. న్యూరాలజిస్ట్‌గా, వైద్య విద్యా రంగంలో ఆయనకున్న మూడు దశాబ్దాల అపార అనుభవాన్ని దృష్టిలో ఉంచుకుని ఆయన్ను ఈ పదవిలో నియమించినట్లు విశ్వవిద్యాలయ కులపతి డా. గింజుపల్లి మురళి అన్నారు. అంతర్జాతీయ వైద్య వ్యవస్థల అభివృద్ధి, ఆసుపత్రి నిర్వహణలో హరనాథ్ గుర్తింపు పొందారు. ప్రస్తుతం ఆయన ఎలైట్ హెల్త్ సిస్టమ్స్ బోర్డులో నాన్ ఎగ్జిక్యూటివ్ డైరెక్టర్‌గా కూడా సేవలందిస్తున్నారు.

డాక్టర్ పొలిచర్ల గతంలో గ్లోబల్ హాస్పిటల్స్ గ్రూప్‌ వైస్ ఛైర్మన్‌గా పనిచేశారు. ఆయన పనిచేసిన సమయంలో ఈ ఆసుపత్రిలో లివర్, కిడ్నీ, హార్ట్, లంగ్ ట్రాన్స్‌ప్లాంట్ సేవలు విస్తరించాయి. కార్డియోథొరాసిక్ విభాగంలో ఓపెన్ హార్ట్ సర్జరీలు, మినిమల్లీ ఇన్వేసివ్ కార్డియాక్ విధానాలు అభివృద్ధి చెందాయి. న్యూరో క్రిటికల్ కేర్, క్లిష్టమైన న్యూరోసర్జరీ సేవల్లో ఆధునిక సాంకేతికత వినియోగానికి ఆయన ప్రాధాన్యత ఇచ్చారు. వైద్య పర్యాటక రంగం అభివృద్ధిలో కూడా ఆయన కీలకంగా వ్యవహరించారు.

డెట్రాయిట్‌లోని బాన్ సెకర్స్ హాస్పిటల్‌లో పని చేసిన సమయంలో 1992, 1996 సంవత్సరాల్లో ఇంటర్నల్ మెడిసిన్ రెసిడెంట్స్ నుంచి ఔట్‌స్టాండింగ్ టీచర్ ఆఫ్ ది ఇయర్ అవార్డు అందుకున్నారు. 2025లో లోకనాయక్ ఫౌండేషన్ నుంచి లైఫ్‌టైమ్ అచీవ్‌మెంట్ అవార్డు అందుకున్నారు. సెయింట్ మార్టినస్ యూనివర్సిటీ గవర్నర్ల బోర్డు ఛైర్మన్‌గా ఆయన అంతర్జాతీయ గుర్తింపు, అకడమిక్ ప్రమాణాల మెరుగుదల, అమెరికా, కరీబియన్, ఆసియా దేశాల్లో క్లినికల్ అనుబంధాల విస్తరణ, పరిశోధన, స్పెషాలిటీ శిక్షణ కార్యక్రమాల అభివృద్ధి వంటి అంశాలపై దృష్టి పెట్టనున్నారు. దీంతో విశ్వవిద్యాలయం అంతర్జాతీయ వైద్య విద్యా రంగంలో మరింతగా విస్తరించే అవకాశముందని యూనివర్సిటీ కార్యవర్గం ఒక ప్రకటనలో తెలిపింది.

Dr. Haranath Policherla, MD Appointed Chairman of the Board of Governors, St. Martinus University, Willemstad, Curaçao

Willemstad, Curaçao — St. Martinus University has appointed Dr. Haranath Policherla, MD, as Chairman of the Board of Governors. Dr. Policherla is a neurologist and healthcare leader with more than three decades of experience in clinical practice, hospital administration, and medical education.

Dr. Policherla previously served as Vice Chairman of Global Hospitals Group, which is now part of IHH Healthcare. During his tenure, the hospital network expanded tertiary care services and developed specialized clinical programs across multiple locations in India.

He played a role in strengthening multi-organ transplant programs, including liver, kidney, heart, and lung transplantation. The hospital network also expanded cardiothoracic programs that perform complex open-heart surgeries and minimally invasive cardiac procedures.

As a practicing neurologist, Dr. Policherla has worked in neuro-critical care and complex neurosurgery. His work has focused on integrating modern medical technology, multidisciplinary clinical care, and evidence-based treatment practices.

Dr. Policherla has also been involved in the development of international medical services and medical tourism programs, helping expand access to specialized healthcare for patients from different countries.

In 2025, he received the Lokanayak Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to medicine and healthcare. He also serves as a Non-Executive Director on the Board of Elite Health Systems Inc.

Dr. Policherla has contributed to medical education throughout his career. While working at Bon Secours Hospital, he received the “Outstanding Teacher of the Year” award from Internal Medicine residents in 1992 and 1996.

As Chairman of the Board of Governors, he will support the university’s governance, academic development, and international collaborations. His role will include strengthening partnerships, expanding clinical training opportunities, and supporting programs that prepare students for international medical licensing and residency pathways.

St. Martinus University welcomed Dr. Policherla to the leadership role and looks forward to working with him in advancing medical education and training.
